Toyota has two hybrid vehicles right now, the Prius and the Highlander SUV. Here's how they work. Being hybrids, they run on a mixture of gas and electricity. When driving slow, the car is primarily, if not wholly, powered by electricity. However, when driving at high speeds, like on the highway, the car switches entirely to gas. Electricity just doesn't provide the umph.
