The Santa Fe is Hundai's SUV. I guess every car company has to have an SUV (Saturn has one now too). It's a little cheaper than other SUVs, like Hundai cars in general. The reliability may not be up to some of the more expensive ones, but it's a chance for people to afford an SUV if they can't really afford an SUV. Of course, the question remains, do most people who have and SUV need an SUV? Hmmm...
