Auto insurence

Just a side note here about car insurence. My wife had an accident and totaled our car. We were very happy that our insurence company paid us a fair price for the car. But here's the problem. The insurence payoff allowed us to pay off the car loan and have a few hundred dollars left over. But we still didn't have a car. We had to get a new car, which we couldn't really do with the insurence money that was left over. So the insurence really didn't replace our car. It just allowed us to pay off the loan for the car and start over from square one. Kind of frustrating.
