I have a 93 buick century. The muffler and tail pipe are rusted out. The problem is that the car eith doesn`t start and smells of gas, like it`s flodded, or it starts and then dies after a driving for a few miles or less. It will then usuall re-start, but it releases a plume of black smoke and then runs very sluggishly. The plugs have been changed and the injectors cleaned. When it starts on the first try, it seems to run fine until it dies. Could this be the cat conv. or perhaps the o2 sensor? Could it just be that the muffler and tail pipè arent functioning? Where should I begin. A few mechanics have looked at it, but the couldn`t dectect the problem as the car started fine in their presence. The computer showed no code faults when it was plugged in???
